The C&IT Association Forum kicked off at Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre (FIECC), with speakers on managing budgets and how to deliver an event to a global audience.

At the venue that opened its doors just five weeks ago, the event kicked off with a bit of fun and teambuilding with retro games like Pong and Buggy Racing on a shared screen from Ping Events.

FIECC’s president Carlo Zoccali and The Royal Town Planning Institute’s events business manager Hannah Armstrong opened the content sessions with a presentation on managing budgets, generating revenue and attracting sponsorship.

Armstrong shared few tips and tricks of the trade, such as how to run an event on a tight budget, and how to maximise revenue.

Next, One Young World’s head of operations Megan Downey spoke about delivering an event for a global audience. Downey explained how One Young World is a UK-based not-for-profit organisation that gathers together the brightest young people from around the world to inspire action.

She described how OYW managed more than 1,500 delegates across 196 countries from inception through to delivery in a safe and fun environment.

Afternoon sessions came from the National Conference for Women in Project Management, exploring the presence of women in project management.

With content interspersed throughout the day with a series of one-to-one meetings, the Thursday will conclude with a presentation asking whether associations are ready for GDPR, before a drinks reception and a gala dinner.

Friday’s sessions lead on developing event marketing through social media and a presentation from The UK Chamber of Shipping, the association and voice of the UK shipping industry.
