Norwegian has launched a non-stop service from London to Austin, Texas.

The new year-round three times a week service from London Gatwick to Austin International Airport began yesterday and offers a low-cost option to get to the ‘Lone Star State’ of Texas.

The state is famed for its live music, so to celebrate the first flight passengers enjoyed a live acoustic performance from Austin-based artist Julian Acosta on the ground and in the skies before landing in Austin.

Norwegian chief commercial officer, Thomas Ramdahl said: "We are excited to offer passengers the only direct route from London Gatwick to Austin. Our flights give both leisure and business travellers the chance to explore this vibrant city."

Austin will be Norwegian’s 13th long-haul route launched from London Gatwick in the past four years.
