Cruises on a new style of first-class boats have been launched on the Mekong River in Laos.

Mekong Kingdoms Luxury Cruises says it can offer gourmet meals in plush cabins with unique, curated experiences both aboard and ashore along the way.

The route makes its way along the Mekong River from Thailand’s Golden Triangle to Vientiane, the ancient capital of Laos, and now UNESCO World Heritage city of Luang Prabang.

Minor Hotels Dillip Rajakarier CEO said: "Our guests are travellers who desire not just a unique travel experience, but one that enhances the ambience of the destinations.

"Mekong Kingdoms cruises harken back to the days when the journey is savoured as much as the destination."

Mekong Kingdoms has a fleet of five vessels including a 42-metre, 13 cabin luxury barge at Luang Prabang or Chiang Khong located near Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp and Resort.

The journey from Chiang Rai or Chiang Khong to Luang Prabang takes two nights as it heads downstream. The upstream cruise takes three nights.
