Event planners recently attended a familiarisation trip to Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays, staying at luxury resort Qualia, following Tourism Australia’s incentive showcase Dreamtime 2017 in Brisbane last week.

After taking the hour-and-a-half flight from Brisbane into Great Barrier Reef Airport on Hamilton Island, the group were transported to the 60-room Qualia resort, with Australian sparkling wine and refreshments awaiting their arrival.

The itinerary kicked off in the evening, with a sunset cruise aboard the resort’s luxury yacht, meandering between the Whitsunday islands. Champagne and platters of freshly-caught seafood were served. After arriving back at Hamilton Island Marina, a gourmet BBQ dinner was ready to be enjoyed at Qualia’s outdoor private beachside venue, Pebble Beach.

The following day, the group were back out on the water and ready for their first experience of the world-famous Great Barrier Reef, courtesy of Cruise Whitsundays. A high-speed catamaran sailed delegates from Hamilton Island to a floating multi-level pontoon, which gave delegates direct access to the reef and a range of activities. Snorkel safaris, regular dives and introductory dives for beginners, and the chance to try out Cruise Whitsundays’ new Seabob Jets, carrying delegates under the water’s surface were some of the ways to relax.

Rather than sailing back to land, helicopters were flown in to transfer the group back to Hamilton Island in style, passing over several famous natural attractions, such as Heart Reef and Whitehaven Beach, before landing at Qualia’s private helipad.

That evening, sunset drinks were enjoyed on the Hamilton Island Yacht Club’s Boardwalk - a space that can host receptions for up to 400 delegates - before a relaxed dinner at the ocean-facing Catseye Beach restaurant.

With one morning left on Hamilton Island, the group found time to visit Hamilton Island Golf Club on Dent Island, the only 18-hole championship golf course in Australia located on its own island. A tour of the course offered one last photo opportunity for the group.
