Case study: An Evening with Land Rover BAR

Land Rover Bar worked with the Science Museum to deliver a bespoke event in a unique venue.

Objectives

Land Rover BAR wanted to bring its partners, sponsors and shareholders together ahead of the 36th America’s Cup yacht race. The America's Cup World Series was won by Land Rover BAR, earning points that they took into the 2017 Qualifiers Round.

The evening was set up so that an update could be delivered on what would happen next, now that the AC protocol had been released. There was also a fundraiser for Land Rover BAR’s official charity, the 1851 Trust.

Solution

Science Museum in central London was chosen as the venue, because it brought together elements of science and technology.

The Mathematics: The Winton Gallery was particularly relevant because of its curved overhead structure, which represents airflow around the Handley Page aircraft, drawing on similarities to the boats sailed in the 35th America’s Cup – the ‘flying’ catamarans. The Maths gallery and Information Age spaces were used for the event.

The Maths gallery was used for drinks receptions, with features lit up in purple light alongside natural breakout areas for groups to congregate in. Guests were served drinks and canapes on arrival in the Maths gallery, before moving into the Information Age gallery, where a bar had been set up.

Guests watched a Q&A on stage, where Lady Georgie Ainslie talked to Sir Ben Ainslie and Giles Scott about the future of the team, and the 1851 Trust, ahead of AC36.

White Light was used for AV, and Bubble for catering. White Light created a bespoke stage surrounding a 'transmitter feature' in the Information Age gallery. Bubble worked closely with LandRover BAR to pick canapés for guests, including mini fish and chips in edible newspaper, with a printed logo.

Verdict:

Kate Ward, events officer at Land Rover BAR: "We hosted a fantastic event at the Science Museum for partners and sponsors; the venue lent itself perfectly for what we were looking to achieve, and the team at the Science Museum worked incredibly hard to meet all our of demands.

"We have received such great feedback from our guests who were really impressed by the venue, the catering, and the production. Many thanks to the team for making sure our event was such a success."
