Barron will be the first business development manager based outside of Northern Ireland. He will develop and build relationships with UK association and corporate meeting planners in Great Britain, promoting Belfast as a conference destination in the GB market.

Barron brings to the role more than 15 years’ experience in the MICE market in organisations like Marriott International and Park Plaza Hotels and Resorts.

Speaking about his new role, Barron said: "Belfast is a growing destination for business and conference tourism, with major developments in hotel capacity and conference facilities like the Belfast Waterfront, so it really is an exciting time to be selling the destination to the conference market.

"The MICE market is one I am experienced in, so to be able to put my skills to use selling my home as a destination is a challenge I am looking forward to."

Laurie Scott, director of business development for Visit Belfast, added: "We are very excited to welcome Keith to the team at Visit Belfast. The MICE market, especially in GB, is an extremely important one for the city of Belfast, and I’m confident that with Keith on the ground and in-market, we will be able to make connections, develop relationships and grow business to the city."
