The British Cattle Breeders Club was founded 70 years ago, and held its first meeting in 1948. The Club's aim is to link practical cattle breeding with science and to provide a forum for exchange between scientists and breeders of beef and dairy cattle. Each year the conference has a different theme, with ‘Practical Innovation’ being 2017’s theme.

The British Cattle Breeders Club annual conference has been held at QHotels’ The Telford Hotel & Golf Resort in Shropshire for nine years. The event returned in January this year with the theme ‘Practical Innovation – Today’s Challenges for Tomorrow’s Generation’.

The objective of the conference was for experts from around the globe to give a series of presentations outlining the latest technical developments in cattle breeding.  Throughout the conference, delegates gained insights into the management of some of the most efficient beef and dairy units in the country.

The event

The event was held over two-and-a-half days, with more than 200 delegates attending. Each of the conference spaces at the Telford Hotel was used, including the Main Suite and the Coalport Suite.

The event saw thought-provoking, interesting and informative presentations from the speakers. This was complemented by the opportunity to network and socialise during the annual club dinner.

With the 2018 conference booking already in place, Heidi Bradbury, secretary at the British Cattle Breeders Club, said: "The Telford Hotel provides everything we need in a venue to enable our delegates to not only attend the speaker sessions, but also to give them the opportunity to relax and network during their time here."

The location

"The location suited our needs perfectly," said Bradbury. "We had delegates travelling from various locations throughout the UK, and Europe too.  The hotel was easily accessible, had plenty of parking, great food and fantastic facilities for what we needed in terms of the event itself. We were also able to offer our delegates a range of activities for their free time with the onsite spa, gym and golf facilities."

"The staff at the Telford Hotel are always very polite and helpful," said Bradbury. "Their teamwork provides us with a seamless experience, which really helps things run smoothly during the event.  Prior to the conference, Bridget, conference and events manager, ensured everything was organised. From the moment we arrived she assisted in any way that she could to ensure our requirements were met."

Sarah Dainty, director of Sales at QHotels, said: "We have been welcoming the British Cattle Breeders Club to the Telford Hotel & Golf Resort for nine years and have a great understanding of the requirements for one of the most important conferences in the client’s events diary.

"It’s our aim to offer great service and food but to also exceed the client’s expectations. This year, the annual club dinner fell on Burns Night, so we offered a Burns Night-themed evening featuring a piper and a menu that included haggis.

"Next year, we will help the British Cattle Breeders Club celebrate its 70th anniversary. We’re looking forward to welcoming them once again to what will be a very important event for them."
