It will be the first time the event has taken place in the gulf, and only the second time it has visited the Middle East in 79 years.

More than 3,000 delegates are expected to attend the five-day event at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from 22 to 26 September 2019.

The event aims to enhance the role of pharmacists in improving healthcare systems across the world, and will examine the most important scientific innovations in the sector.

FIP President Dr. Carmen Peña said: "The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) is delighted that, in 2019, the 79th World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is to be held in Abu Dhabi. We look forward to working with colleagues there to bring our global pharmacy network to the United Arab Emirates, so that important discussions of professional issues and developments will take place in this unique location."

Dr. Mariam Galadari, pharmacy division chairperson of the Emirates Medical Association, which helped support the bid, said the event will provide an opportunity to network, exchange knowledge and build new partnerships as well as offering insight into the latest developments in pharmaceutical sciences.

HE Saif Saeed Ghobash, director general of Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), commented: "Abu Dhabi’s winning bid for the 2019 edition of FIP Pharmaceutical Sciences World Congress marks another major success in attracting high-profile international conferences and events to the emirate. It is also a vote of confidence by the global entity in the Abu Dhabi’s unique capabilities to host leading world events."

He added: "We will leverage our advanced facilities to ensure a productive participation for all those attending the event. In converging several specialised companies and pharmacists from across the globe, I am confident that the conference will provide an ideal opportunity to create awareness about Abu Dhabi’s rich cultural heritage among the visitors."

Other recent wins for ADNEC include the International Diabetes Federation’s (IDF) World Diabetes Congress 2017, WorldSkills 2017, and the World Conference of Family Doctors (WONCA 2020).
