Historic Royal Palaces appoints new head

Historic Royal Palaces has appointed Sam Owen to the role of head of Kensington Palace and Kew Palace.

In his new role Owen will lead and take ownership of the operational, financial and stakeholder responsibilities for both sites.

He brings considerable experience within the industry, having spent the last 10 years at the Science Museum Group. His last three years were spent heading up commercial operations for visitor catering, corporate and commercial hire and commercial experiences across the group’s four venues. Prior to this, Sam was head of commercial events with responsibility for event hire and commercial event programming.

Commenting on his new position, Owen said: "I am particularly looking forward to the challenge of the large projects that are coming up over the next few years at both sites including the Diana: Her Fashion Story exhibition which launched in February at Kensington Palace and the Great Pagoda at Kew in 2018.

"On a day-to-day basis I am looking forward to the challenge of increasing visitor numbers to Kensington Palace so more people can discover the incredible stories the palace has to share. This in turn will support the charitable cause of Historic Royal Palaces and ensure the palaces are well maintained and remain accessible for all to enjoy."

Paul Gray, palaces group director, added: "We are delighted to have Sam on board as Head of Kensington Palace and Kew Palace. Sam brings with him considerable experience in the industry and we are very much looking forward to his valuable input as we head into a busy year of activity at both sites."
