Meetings and events growth was due to an increase in live events projects as well as the continued development of global strategic meetings management (SMM) wins.

The UK and Ireland team also signed 26 new clients, took on 25 new starters and made 19 internal promotions during 2016. Globally, CWT M&E organised almost 35,000 meetings and events – up 27% on 2015.

This success in 2016 is mirrored by Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT), the parent company of CWT Meetings & Events, which reported £16bm (US$2bn) in sales attributable to new business.

In the financial year ending 31 December 2016, CWT recorded over 58.7 million transactions across the business, including joint ventures. In the UK & Ireland, CWT won new clients worth £163m in 2016.

Commenting on growth across CWT M&E, Ian Cummings, regional director, said:"2016 was an outstanding year for us at CWT Meetings & Events and I’m immensely proud of each and every one of the team for all they achieved. We are all thrilled with our results and the solid structure we have built to delight our customers and teams through 2017 and beyond."
