Case study: Old Mutual Wealth's Christmas and awards bash

Southampton-based investment company Old Mutual Wealth held its Christmas celebration and awards at the O2 Guildhall Southampton, organised by Venues and Events International.

Objectives

Old Mutual Wealth decided to hold a combined Christmas celebration and awards ceremony, to recognise staff from specific business units across the company. The brand used Venues and Events International as its agency, to organise an event with ten planned awards categories, voted for by the staff for their peers.

Solution

Taking place on 16 December at the O2 Guildhall Southampton, the theme for the evening was Rio 2016 and a Brazilian party. Table Art produced palm-tree centre-pieces for each table and guests were entertained by a Brazilian steel band, stilt-walkers and carnival show-girls.

Old Mutual’s Jackie Parker said: "We had the venue agreed and plenty of ideas for a theme but we were struggling with time to organise, plan and deliver with only five months planning ahead of us. Venues and Events International had lots of new ideas to bring to the table and were respectful of our corporate position when suggesting entertainment options.

They recommended the compère and he was a huge success, which played a major role in getting the evening off to a great start." After the awards, guests enjoyed a cocktail bar, arcade games, dress-up photo booths and a live band. Other suppliers assisting with the event included Zing Events Exquisite Cocktails, Sternberg Clarke, Capital Booths and Wise Catering.

Verdict

"We enjoyed having Venue and Events onboard to help with the planning and organising of our event," said Parker. "They listened to our thoughts and ideas at the outset and worked closely with us to deliver a fantastic party.  They sourced respectfully on our behalf and kept us involved in decision making via regular conference calls."

She added that the agency took control of small things that can lead to issues, co-ordinating with all the suppliers to ensure a fun-packed event. "It was great on the night as the main co-ordinator to be able to sit back, relax and enjoy the evening as they took overall control of everything on the day."
