The acquisition is part of the company’s wider plan to expand local knowledge and expertise.

Trine Steffensen, new managing director of MCI Nordics, said: "We are excited to welcome Initiativ to our growing team; this acquisition confirms our company’s leading position within the local MICE market and is directly associated with our vision of expanding and strengthening our presence in the Nordics as we are aiming at doubling the size of our local operations by 2020."

Former owners of Initiativ, Jonas Jonsson and Claes Johan Larsson, added: "Initiativ will add a new dimension and enhanced opportunities for creating even better business results and relations through meetings and events." They will continue in their roles as director of corporate events and account director at MCI Nordics, respectively.

In June 2016 the company also purchased the Danish industry-leading business ICS, making this the second big acquisition in the Nordics region in a period of six months. This acquisition reflects on the growth strategy that MCI Nordics has been following, as well as increased generation of prospective new business.
