Once again, C&IT asked readers to nominate the city, resort or destination that best delivers for events in two categories: Best Short-Haul Events Destination and Best Mid- to Long-Haul Events Destination.

Picking up the award this year were Dutch dual destinations Rotterdam & The Hague, which were commended for their combination of excellent business venues and stylish and creative event spaces.

"An area with a lot to do and see, ranging from a governmental city in The Hague to a modern buzzing atmosphere with stunning architecture and an interesting artistic night life in Rotterdam," said one reader, while another commented: "Rotterdam is an upcoming city with lots to offer - highlights, hotels, restaurants and more!"

It has been an exciting year for both cities with a wave of new hotel openings giving even more venue choice for groups, including the 306-room Hague Marriott Hotel, which opened in February this year with a 700-delegate meeting space.

Next year will see the opening of Spanish hotel chain Room Mate’s largest property to date with the 230-room Mate Bruno in Rotterdam’s Wilhelminapier area.

Existing venues in Rotterdam (below) include the stand out five-star, 230-room Manhattan Hotel - a popular choice for inbound groups due to its proximity to Rotterdam Centraal Station – and Nelle Fabriek, a former coffee and tobacco factory and now Unesco World Heritage Site.

The jewel in The Hague’s crown is undoubtedly the World Forum, which held the esteemed Nuclear Security Summit in 2014, which was attended by 58 world leaders, including then US president Barack Obama.
