'Frankfurt remains the flagship show' says IMEX's Carina Bauer

While this year's IMEX America show has eclipsed the Frankfurt edition in size, IMEX Group CEO tells C&IT that the flagship event remains in Germany.

For the first time in its six year history, IMEX America has overtaken the Frankfurt show in size, with the Las Vegas event recording increased exhibitor numbers on last year. However, IMEX Group CEO Carina Bauer explained that while she plans to increase the America-focused show even further, the Frankfurt edition is still the primary event.

"IMEX America this year is very slightly bigger than the Frankfurt show for the first time in terms of bigger show floor space," Bauer told C&IT. "However, Frankfurt is still the flagship show and Las Vegas is still the 'younger child'.

A total of 75% of the buyers and 50% of exhibitors at this year's IMEX America came from the US but UK hosted buyer numbers have increased.

"Frankfurt is very global in terms of where the buyers are coming from. In Frankfurt you’ve got 70% from Europe and then 30% from the rest of the world so you have slightly larger contingents from Asia, Latin America, Africa the Middle East," added Bauer.

However, IMEX America will continue to grow in size with the show expanding into a new hall in 2018. "Here we have filled the halls we’re in and we’ll be in these halls next year and then after that we’re able to move into additional space.

"That is fantastic as it gives us a lot of opportunity here for 2018 and beyond and we’re already talking to exhibitors about their growth plans. We do have a lot of demand here still and our hope is that we can continue to grow this show."
