The board is comprised of international industry leaders from a range of backgrounds in the events industry who will provide guidance and leadership to MTB and the meetings industry. In addition to this, Mexican destinations will recieve specialised feedback from international and national experts to assist in designing marketing strategies.

The advisory board has been endorsed by the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA).

Lourdes Berho, CEO, Mexico Tourism Board, said: "The Board is a key pillar of our new strategic pathway for this industry as it will offer Mexico's destinations valuable insights and counsel needed to excel in this area.

"I am certain with this renewed focus and investment we can deliver impressive growth and make Mexico the Latin American leader in the sector."

MTB announced during IMEX America that the country recorded a 37% increase in revenue generated by the meeting industry to more than £20m, hosting more than 266 million gatherings annually. The meeting industry is responsible for 23.3% of room occupancy and a wuarter of the food and beverage consumption by visitors.

The figures were released during a press conference at IMEX America, which is taking place from 18-20 October at the Sands Expo, Las Vegas.
