BVEP to consult events industry on Brexit

The Business Visits & Events Partnership (BVEP) is coordinating an industry-wide response to Britain's decision to leave the EU, as part of a review by the Department for Culture, Media & Sport.

The BVEP will survey the sector on the impact of the referendum on business and feed the results back to the government so as to provide one voice representing the event industry’s interests in forthcoming Brexit negotiations.

Questions will cover recent cancellation experience, concerns and key priorities for event business and what EU legislation they would like to see kept or scrapped. There will also be the chance to comment on any opportunities they have noted since the referendum.

Representatives of the BVEP and the newly-formed Events Industry Board will meet ministers over the summer to discuss initial findings.

The BVEP will also work with representative bodies including the Tourism Alliance to provide an overview of key business issues for the industry that need to be considered in negotiations over new trade arrangements.

Simon Hughes, vice chair of the BVEP, said: "Our focus is to support the development of a robust body of evidence that will inform the negotiations that lie ahead. The support of the industry and our members will as ever be invaluable in this and I would encourage them to complete the survey."

The survey, which will be live until early September, is a follow-up to research the association carried out ahead of the vote.
