European big hitters, including France, Italy, Barcelona, and Germany, were the most used destinations for brands travelling overseas in 2015, but the increased confidence from corporates to use new destinations will excite event planners around the world.

When asked which new destinations they are using in 2016, 14% of agencies surveyed named the US, with another 8% claiming Beijing, Shanghai and Porto. Also named were Sri Lanka, Croatia, India and Malta.

Japan is another destination that has been big on the radar so far in 2016 thanks in part to the weakening yen and a growing trend towards long-haul travel identified in C&IT’s 2015 Incentive Travel Report.

London unsurprisingly remains the most used city in the UK for events with 63% of corporates and 86% of agencies staying in the capital, although Birmingham (12%), Manchester (6%) and Leeds and Edinburgh are closing the gap.
