#CITBerlinForum: Vok Dams' 5 reasons to hold your event in Berlin

German agency Vok Dams' director of strategy and concept, Christopher Werth, told C&IT his top-five reasons that planners should consider Berlin for events.

1. It’s a city with a strong story

"Berlin is a city with a rich, modern history and a strong story behind it," said Werth. "You can see this story at every turn when you tour through the city, which works really well for incentive trips or for excursions tacked on to events. There are many historic monuments and mementos to when the city was split into East and West."

2. It has a lot of unusual venues

Werth said that Berlin is full of disused old buildings, factories and powerplants which are no longer functioning, and make really unique sites for events. These venues present a blank canvas and are huge in size, as well as being particularly good for light shows. He recommended the abandoned Templehof airport, one of the largest buildings in the world, as an especially unique site.

3. The people are very open-minded

Berlin’s history and unique blend of two different cultures when the East and the West joined has made it a very open-minded city, which attracts young, creative types. This works well when getting speakers for events and any kind of organisation is welcome there.

4. The diverse culture accommodates all event types

Werth highlighted the number of museums in Berlin, as well as opera houses, universities and science institutes, which can be hired for companies hosting events that would work well there. The range of historical museums can also host events and dinners.

5. International entertainment

"Berlin is a young city and hosts a number of nightclubs and bars which can appeal to everyone, with entertainment going on 24-hours a day, said Werth. "It has restaurants which cater to every type of international taste, though plenty of authentic German dishes too."
