On Tuesday (17 May), Hampton Court Palace welcomed 150 guests to its Hidden Garden Festival, which celebrated its new 20th Century Garden events space and the additional marquee sites at the palace. The garden area had been transformed into a festival celebration with colourful furniture and structures from Raj Tent Club, flower bunting and flowers in wellies courtesy of Simon J Lycett and festoon lighting from White Light Ltd.

Blue Strawberry provided a festival-inspired menu with a selection of canapés, mini meals, a BBQ station and ‘Life’s a Beach’ dessert station. Dishes included pan roast duck breast, beetroot puree, pickled beetroot, pickled onion and pomegranate gel; BBQ sweet corn cakes with chilli, haloumi and coriander salsa; and Madagascan vanilla cheesecake with blueberry waves. Entertainment on the night included an acoustic duo, stilt walkers, acrobatic jugglers and face painters courtesy of Sternberg Clarke.

On Wednesday evening (18 May), event professionals gathered for the launch of The Deck at the National Theatre. Guests arriving at the showcase were greeted by cocktails and canapés and also enjoyed an interactive dessert station and a range of entertainment.

At the weekend (13-14 May), Hotel Republic and its two Brussels hotels, The Hotel and Hotel Bloom, hosted a group of UK event agency professionals on a Brussels fam trip. Eight agencies including Absolute Corporate Events, Inntel, Zibrant, Nexus Venue, Capita Travel & Events, FC Business Intelligence and LBCG took the Eurostar to Brussels. They enjoyed a programme of activities including a cooking class with white asparagus, a visit to the oldest fine leather luxury goods’ company in the world, Delvaux, and a detective game called Escape Hunt.

Finally, at the end of last week, AccorHotels celebrated the launch of its MPW restaurant located in the new Castle Hotel Windsor MGallery Collection. Celebrity chef Marco Pierre White was on hand to meet press, bloggers and local dignitaries at the hotel, which is part-way through an extensive refurbishment as part of its MGallery rebrand. The property offers 108 rooms, 12 conference suites designed for MICE events and syndicate rooms which can accommodate up to 400.
