IMEX 2016 took place this week (19-21 April) at Messe Frankfurt in Germany. According to IMEX chairman Ray Bloom, who closed the trade show yesterday, almost 9,000 hosted buyers and visitors attended the event.

The number of individual appointments and stand presentations was recorded at 57,000, with 1,200 group appointments leading to an additional 10,000 interactions. In total, the number of meetings increased by 9%.

C&IT attended the Home of Cricket, Lord’s, twice this week. Yesterday (21 April), event and corporate hospitality specialist Paragon hosted Phil Tufnell & Matt Dawson’s Question of Sport dinner, which was attended by corporates including UBS and raised money for charity Cricket United. The evening included a three-course meal, quiz, Q&A with three England cricketers and an auction.

Last Friday (15 April), Lord’s hosted the first in a series of Legends of Sport lunches in the iconic Long Room, with former England captains Graeme Gooch and Mike Atherton fielding questions on the current state of the game and the upcoming season. Lord’s Cricket Ground recently opened new event spaces worth £3.8m.

No.11 Cavendish Square, the Grade-II listed Georgian townhouse in London’s west end, opened for summer events this week, following a 12 week courtyard refurbishment. The courtyard garden at No.11 has been re-engineered to create more space for entertaining up to 120 guests.

The area now features a living wall, fixed seating around its perimeter, as well as contemporary lighting and water features to add tranquillity. Available this year for summer BBQs and parties, the courtyard can also be hired for receptions and conferences.

On Tuesday (19 April) event professionals gathered at Canal Mills in Leeds for the venue’s launch as a new events space. Having opened in 2012 as a creative arts, food and music venue, the space is now open for corporate events following a major refurbishment.

Around 100 guests came to see the historic Victorian venue, which was set up to illustrate the kind of events it can offer, including conferences, seminars, corporate dinners, weddings and Christmas parties.
