Following an external media briefing event in the morning, Gorkana conducted one of its quarterly employee team events, which known as ‘town hall meetings’. According to head of events and marketing manager, Victoria Morrison, these meetings are an important aspect of the company's management style, and allow them to respond to employee concerns.
The event ran for 500 people at the Barbican Cinema 1, which was chosen due to its close proximity to the offices and ability to host large numbers. "We love the Barbican and knew we'd be in safe hands for multiple events in one day," explains Morrison. The event comprised two separate sessions, each accommodating half the workforce- to ensure that the office remained business as usual for clients.
"Our executive team took time to communicate top staff company developments including business strategy, results and celebrating success. There was also a portion of the event dedicated to staff Q&A and feedback to keep an open line of communication," she adds. As there was an external event for clients earlier the morning, the company decided to combine the events into one day, maximising the budget and streamlining the events teams efforts.
According to Morrison, the event really met its objectives. "The internal event was extremely informative for our employees and helped to build camaraderie and moral amount the organisation." She adds that whilst running a number of events in the same place on the same day can be a logistical challenge, it was worth it to maximise the budget.
