The Grade II-listed property, which was built in 1932, is situated on Water Street in the city centre. The plans will see it converted into a five-star hotel with 227 rooms, which is planned to open in late 2017 or early 2018.

The new, £40m hotel will also feature a destination spa, two restaurants, three bars and events space. The conversion will see a number of the bank’s original features retained, with the tellers’ counter and the original writing desks kept.

"We are delighted to complete the acquisition of this important property," said Tony Troy, Principal Hayley Group’s CEO.

"The Martins Bank building provides us with a strategically important presence in the heart of the Liverpool market, where there is a clear consumer need for a full-service luxury hotel and events space."
