The report also identified Milan and Paris as the most popular European cities for meetings and incentives. It put this down to improved transport links and investment in infrastructure, resulting in the opening of a number of new hotels and venues in both cities.
Italy is seeing a great deal of interest from Middle East meeting planners, due to the Alitalia acquisition by Etihad in 2014.
Emanuele Pinna, destination manager of Pacific World Italy, said: "Thanks to its geographic centrality, recent economic and political stability and very good direct flight connections, Italy is becoming and increasingly popular destination for meetings and incentives. "
The rise in popularity for meetings and incentives in Paris is being put down to the impact of the exchange rate for US clients, which affords them greater buying power, as well as the constant demand from the EU zone source markets.
Cecile Dubeau, destination manager of Pacific World France, said: "We’ve seen an increased demand for Paris as a meetings and incentives destination from countries including USA, UK, Germany and Brazil."
