ExCel London threw its own Great British Bake Off in March this year, where eight teams of event planners competed. The event saw agencies such as Concerto Live, drp and GPJ taking part in a cupcake challenge, followed by a cheese scone making competition.

IMEX 2015 took place in May at Messe Frankfurt, and was the biggest event since the show's launch in 2003. Featuring 3,500 exhibiting companies from more than 150 countries, the event kicked off with a speech from Bill McDermott, CEO of SAP, the world's largest business software company, before a programme of seminars, forums and meetings.

In June the Event Marketing Association (EMA) hosted a summer soirée for more than 200 event professionals, including corporate planners. The event was held in The Magazine Restaurant, London, which is adjacent to The Serpentine Gallery. Tours of the gallery were followed with networking, drinks and canapés.

EVCOM held its summer conference at the ACC Liverpool in July this year, for 140 event professionals. Following a day of talks and workshops, EVCOM members headed to Camp and Furnace for dinner, cocktails and dancing with a live band.

More than 100 event planners from across the world also gathered for the FRHI Hotels & Resorts' fifth Global Meeting Exchange in July, a four-day annual educational networking at the Fairmont Monte Carlo.

The ACC Liverpool launched Exhibition Centre Liverpool in September, an 8,100sqm building on the city’s international waterfront. More than 700 industry professionals, suppliers, partners and the Mayor of Liverpool gathered to celebrate the opening.

The fifth IMEX America, which took place in Las Vegas in October, attracted a record 10,732 industry professionals and more than 3,000 corporate buyers. According to statistics, the show increased its size by 4% from 2014, with its largest ever international audience.

More than 80,000 meetings took place at ibtm world in Barcelona in November, with 4,000 hosted buyers in attendance. The number of pre-scheduled meetings represented a 2% increase from the previous year, compared to 2014's 20% growth from 2013.

C&IT joined event planners for Dreamtime 2015 in December, Tourism Australia's business events showcase in Adelaide. The meeting was followed by a fam trip up the coast, with sightseeing trips.
