The latest figures from Glasgow City Marketing Bureau show 50% of total conference business secured to the city between April 2014 and April 2015 came from ambassador-linked events – up 15% on the previous year.

In total, more than £70m worth of ambassador-linked conferences was secured in 2014/2015, the same year the programme marked its 25th anniversary.

New wins include the Meeting of the European Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology 2019, secured by local ambassadors at Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children, and the European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy Congress 2018, which is expected to attract 2,500 delegates over four days, contributing around £4m to the economy.

There are now 1,700 influential individuals within Glasgow’s Conference Ambassador Programme 'pool' helping the city drive success across a multitude of sectors including; low carbon industries, education, medicine, life sciences, engineering, design and manufacture.

Aileen Crawford, head of conventions at Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: "This year has been a milestone year for our award-winning ambassador programme. Not only have we celebrated our 25th anniversary but we’re also marking a record breaking sales year; underpinning the value of Glasgow’s esteemed ambassador community.

"By assisting our ambassadors we maximise the impact of the conference whether it’s in terms of policy, public interaction or economic benefit. We have strategic relationships to work in partnership at the highest levels in the universities."
