C&IT was lucky enough to be invited on a tour around the soon-to-be-opened InterContinental hotel at The O2 on 12 November. The opening is greatly anticipated by the C&I industry and brings with it a vast range of options for new meetings space.

The 453-room, five-star hotel is located adjacent to The O2, and will boast a 3,000 sqm pillar-free ballroom, one of the largest of its kind in Europe. The ballroom will be able to accommodate more than 2,500 delegates banquet-style and 3,000 theatre-style.

There will also be 19 additional function spaces, the largest of which can accommodate 200, the smaller ones set up as boardrooms. A range of breakout space will also be available, with each of the rooms offering views over Canary Wharf or The O2.

The hotel will be home to two restaurants, a fine-dining establishment and a brasserie, and also has a private dining room for up to 24 delegates. There will also be a tea salon, a bar and a second sky bar on the 18th floor, with stunning views.

Other facilities include a spa with eight treatment rooms and bespoke treatments, a state-of-the-art gym and a 17m swimming pool.

Hasham Soliman, general manager, said: "It’s time this area of London had a luxury hotel and we are proud to step up to the challenge. We’ve put together a formidable team with special skillsets, and we are confident about being one of the best MICE hotels in both the UK and Europe."
