Major overhaul planned for Kongresshaus Zurich

Plans to modernise and enhance event space Kongresshaus Zurich will get underway in mid-2017, with the new venue expected to reopen in mid-2020.

In September, the overall renovation project for the Kongresshaus and the concert venue Tonhalle, which is part of the complex, reached an important milestone, with plans determined for the modernisation. During the renovation period, Kongresshaus will not provide a temporary building at an alternative location, and the present facilities will be available only until summer 2017.

Work will be carried out to the entrance area to accommodate a new bar that can be used for receptions and drinks parties, while the existing Garden Room will be converted to create a foyer with flexible floor space combinations. A new Garden Room will be built facing towards the lake. An additional seminar room will be created adjacent to the foyer and both areas can be opened up onto the new Garden Room, which will create a large banqueting hall with capacity for around 800 guests.

Additional smaller rooms are being built on the area where the present-day brasserie stands and a new panorama restaurant with a large terrace, bar and lounge area will also be created, once the existing Panorama Room has been demolished.

Tonhalle’s large concert hall, built in 1895, will also be upgraded, which will include expansion of the rehearsal rooms and backstage areas.
