The airline will operate two flights a week to San Juan using a Dreamliner aircraft, with prices starting from £159 one way.

Sir Bruce Forsyth and his Puerto Rican wife Lady Wilnelia Forsyth attended the launch of the new route at London Gatwick, welcoming the return of direct services to San Juan for the first time in nearly a decade.

Thomas Ramdahl, commercial director for Norwegian, said: "Puerto Rico is our fifth long-haul route to launch from London Gatwick in just 18 months and demonstrates the demand for affordable transatlantic flights from the UK.
