Were you looking to move when this opportunity arose?
No, I wasn’t looking to leave Zibrant. The approach came from BCD Meetings & Events. I was very curious when they first approached me and didn’t know a lot about the company before starting conversations with them last year. C&IT listed BCD Meetings & Events at No. 6 in the State of the Industry 2015 Report so I knew that they were a reputable company and that I should explore the opportunity.
Our company has a large global footprint with meetings and events resources located around the world. The ability to be able to speak to clients about their global aspirations and requirements and then being able to service them across the globe was an attractive concept – it’s a very different proposition to working within a UK-based agency.
How does BCD Meetings & Events differ as an agency to Zibrant?
BCD Meetings & Events definitely has a more "global feel" with offices in over 40 countries employing over 700 staff. Perhaps I’ve been very naïve but I never really thought about the talent outside the UK, so to have conference calls and meetings with specialists in different countries sharing challenges and learnings is very educational.
We are delivering events globally and having seen how we approach each new event which involves pulling in staff from specialist areas to deliver that creative concept it’s very easy to see why leading global brands are using the service.
Is it a completely new position at BCD Meetings & Events?
Yes, it’s a new position and my role is to generate new sales, grow the meetings and events business across EMEA and strengthen the BCD Meetings & Events brand.
What's your plan for the next 6 to 12 months?
I am excited about the next 12 months because I have a lot to do. A key focus will be driving sales activity and we’ll be initially looking to build on the excellent relationships we have with existing customers. Further, I will working closely with my colleagues at BCD Travel to explore opportunities within our travel customers. I am also keen to be involved with marketing and increase our brand as an exceptional meetings & events organisation.
