Parker takes over the role of president from Miguel Neves, who as moved to the role of past president. Jane Baker has moved from the role of VP education to president elect, building up to her tenure in 2016/17.
Owner of Absolute Corporate Events Chris Parnham is the only new board member and joins as VP communications. Parnham recently completed a two-year tenure of the HBAA where he was responsible for modernising its approach and delivering record numbers in membership, member satisfaction and event attendance.
Under Parker’s leadership, the board will focus on member engagement and stand-out education. Part of this will involve leading an industry collaboration on professional certification.
Parker said: "It's a privilege to serve as chapter president and I am fortunate to be supported by an outstanding board who bring different areas of expertise and many of whom have prior experience. I have had countless offers of support from past presidents for which I am grateful. Together we will build on previous years' success seeking to create a chapter that people aspire to be associated with. In a crowded association marketplace, our education programme is relevant to planners, suppliers and the next generation of event professionals.
"We will continue to pursue greater recognition of our industry as a professional career choice by leading the promotion of the CMP certification. We will not be satisfied until clients and employers prioritise certification as a fundamental selection criterion."
