The Meetings Show 2015 took place this week (7-9 July), attracting more than 600 exhibiting organisations and 12,000 scheduled appointments. Event professionals took part in networking and educational sessions, as well as meetings with a range of UK and international suppliers.
This week's top five stories:
On Monday (6 July) the Sustainable Events Summit took place at the QEII in London, with C&IT and sister title Event magazine as the official media partners. Delegates enjoyed a number of speaker sessions before breaking into small groups for roundtable sessions on topics including ISO20121 accreditation, expert tips on waste, sustainability and overseas travel and the role industry associations should play in driving sustainability.
GT Associates hosted 33 buyers at two events this week, the first at Melia White House’s ME Radio Roof Bar, the second at the Taj St James’ Court Hotel. Tuesday night's event (7 July) was a welcome drinks and canapé reception on White House Longford Terrace followed by tapas in the rooftop bar. Wednesday night’s event (8 July) involved a trip across the city on the Red RouteMaster bus, before a three-course dinner at various locations in the Taj St James’ Court Hotel.
Catherine Zeta-Jones officially launched the new 171-bedroom Ageas Bowl Hilton Hotel on Monday (6 July). The property will feature conference rooms and a ballroom catering for up to 700 people.
On Tuesday (7 July) Kensington Palace, one of the six palaces cared for by charity Historic Royal Palaces, welcomed 30 event agents and planners for a viewing. Guests enjoyed a private tour of the State Apartments at Kensington Palace, followed by a talk from one of the palace’s curators and a tour of the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection, which is not currently on public display.
