This will be the first time the event, regarded as a major date in the PR calendar, has been held on the African continent.

Johannesburg's Sandton Convention Centre has been chosen as the venue and is expected to welcome around 800 delegates from all corners of the globe, with a large number coming from Africa.

Speakers at the event include John D. Graham, chairman of FleishmanHillard; Colin Byrne, CEO UK & EMEA of Weber Shandwick; and Nigerian Wole Soyinka, the first African to win the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Regarded as the Oscars of the PR world, the IPRA Golden World Awards for Excellence awards ceremony will be held on the Monday evening, honouring the very best PR campaigns from around the globe.

Dr Amybel Sánchez de Walther, president of the IPRA, said: "We believe that this event will be important for the PR community in Africa, as well as in the rest of the world."
