Certification for events professionals will increase industry credibility

MPI UK & Ireland is collaborating with leading associations to encourage members to become Certified Meeting Professionals (CMPs).

As part of the drive, MPI, ISES, HBAA, ABPCO, EVCOM and MIA have invited their members to register for the MPI CMP Boot Camp from 6-7 July.

The CMP programme is a globally recognised certification, owned and managed independently by the Convention Industry Council (CIC), and formed by 33 member organisations including MPI, ISES, SITE and PCMA. At present there are more than 10,000 certified events professionals holding the CMP across the globe.

Beri Kockaya, VP of certification at MPI UK & Ireland, said that the CPM was an internationally recognised benchmark. "The strong endorsements from these associations suggests there is a desire for this and that the benefit is for all, regardless of particular association membership."

Simon Hughes, immediate past chairman of EVCOM, said professional qualifications added credibility to the industry. "One of the continuing challenges in the events and communications industry is that it’s not always clearly recognised as a profession-like accountancy, for example," he explained. "Professional certification offers quality assurance and credibility across the board."
