The new partnership, which was announced at IMEX in Frankfurt today (19 May), will operate under the name MCI Qatar.

"Qatar is a rising meetings industry player in the IMEA region," said Sumaira Isaacs, COO India, Middle East & Africa (IMEA) region, MCI Group at a press conference.

"With the recent construction of two state-of-the-art convention centres and the world’s biggest sporting event – the FIFA World Cup – set to take place in Qatar in 2022, now is the time for MCI to seize these global opportunities, and Elan is the perfect partner to support our growth."

Ibrahim Al Malki, chief enterprise officer, Elan Events and Urban added: "Qatar has ambitious tourism growth plans, and global business meetings and events are rooted deep within this strategy. Elan plays an important role in augmenting this strategy, and a partnership with a global company such as MCI is integral to our collective growth.

"Bridging our knowledge of local market nuances and incorporating a global strategy requires strong partners and we see this in MCI. We look forward to growing this partnership in the coming years and being of service to both MCI and our clients, globally."

Earlier this month, MCI also opened an office in Istanbul to reinforce its capacity to offer services to the IMEA region.
