Amex Meetings & Events appoints head of EMEA region

American Express Meetings & Events has announced the appointment of Jose Antonio Ruiz as head of EMEA.

Previously Ruiz was director of meetings and events for American Express Global Business Travel España, a joint venture between American Express Global Business Travel and Barceló.

In his newly expanded role, Ruiz will be responsible for overseeing more than 600 meetings professionals throughout EMEA providing group air, meeting planning, creative and communication services to local, regional and multinational customers.

Ruiz first joined American Express in Spain in 1999 as a meeting planner and has been with the company for more than 15 years moving up through the ranks.

Issa Jouaneh, vice president and general manager at American Express Meetings & Events, said: "Jose Antonio brings a wealth of meetings industry experience to his role, and is the right leader during a time of high growth and end-to-end services expansion.
