Adelaide: in the spotlight

Adelaide in South Australia is investing in its C&I proposition, with new venues and a host of incentives to tempt event planners.

Where to stay: Three new hotels have recently opened in the city. Quest on King William, Ibis Adelaide and the five-star Mayfair Hotel provide a additional 582 rooms and more properties are in the pipeline. A planned AUS$300+m redevelopment of the Adelaide Casino will also include a new luxury hotel and in April, both Sofitel and Holiday Inn Express announced plans to build new properties in Adelaide with projected opening dates in 2018.

Where to meet: Adelaide Convention Centre is completing a two-stage, AUS$400m development and unveiled the first stage in March, an extension offering an additional 4,300sqm of multi-purpose convention floor space and meeting space, alongside a 500-seat ballroom, 18 breakout rooms and halls for more than 2,000 delegates. Stage two is set to be completed in 2017. Adelaide Oval has recently completed an AUS£535m renovation. The venue offers 22 meetings and event spaces, catering for between 5 to 3,000 people.

Incentive inspiration: Wine experiences in the nearby Barossa Valley, visits to Kangaroo Island and a tour of the Eyre Peninsula, Australia's seafood capital, are available as group activities.

In the pipeline: Plans are afoot for the redevelopment of the Adelaide Festival Centre and Adelaide Casino, which will be part of the Riverbank Precinct.
