The Algarve: options for events

From museums to multi-screen cinemas, modern hotels to event spaces in castles, the Algarve has plenty to entice incentive groups.

Where to stay: The Algarve has a wide range of accommodation suitable for conferences and incentive groups, from villas and apartments to historic pousadas, chic boutique hotels, luxury hotels, all-suite developments and leading international resorts. In addition to leading international names such as Le Meridien, Sofitel, Sheraton and Hilton, there are a range of hotels operated by top Portuguese companies such as Pestana, Dom Pedro, Tivoli, Vila Galé and CS.

Where to eat: Delegates will be spoit for choice. Sample a variety of Portuguese cuisine as well as international dishes in small and authentic local restaurants and cafes to trendy beach bars, stylish ocean-view restaurants and Michelin-starred establishments. Regional cuisine has a focus on fresh fish and seafood from the Atlantic as well as meat and game dishes from the countryside. Local specialities include cataplana, a seafood dish, feljoada, a bean stew and bacalhau, salted cod fish.

Incentive options: Groups can tour a number of wine cellars and vineyards in the region, or try their luck at several casinos. For a cultural-themed incentive, there are chuches and cathedrals, Moorish castles, baroque palaces and art galleries to visit. Sporting enthusiasts can play golf on several 18-hole courses while those in search of relaxation can indulge in luxury spas.
