Zurich's Kunsthaus extension to open in 2020

Work on an extension to the Kunsthaus Zurich museum will begin this autumn, following the conclusion of a legal dispute that has blocked progress for the last two years.

The extension, designed by David Chipperfield Architects and originally scheduled for completion in 2017, will now open in 2020. Together with the existing Kunsthaus building, it will constitute Switzerland’s largest art museum.

The current building has a lecture hall that can be used as a multi-functional space, consisting of a foyer and an auditorium, with the latter offering room for 400 guests in a seated concert setting and 1,000 standing.

The Kunsthaus Zürich also offers the Villa Tobler for banquets. The art nouveau villa has four interconnected rooms, catering for between 50 to 130 people.
