The website plans to launch cities across the whole of the UK before looking to expand into Europe in the coming year.

Although it originally began as an initiative to help school and community centres rent unused space, Hire Space branched into the conference and corporate event market after its last fundraising round, which now accounts for 50% of its enquiries.

Edward Poland, co-founder of Hire Space, said: "The business has gone in directions we didn’t expect, but we’ve enjoyed exploring these opportunities and evolving with them. We have ambitious plans for Hire Space and this latest round of fundraising will help us diversify our offering to our users and build quickly towards full UK coverage."

The company’s portfolio includes 2500 venues in the UK, with 40 new listings added each week. Hire Space expanded into Manchester in 2014 and most recently reached Liverpool and Birmingham.
