The platform is designed to benefit both event professionals and venues. Event planners are able to use it to compare and book meeting spaces worldwide, including for last-minute events. Venues are able to use the platform to market themselves to a ‘wider pool of new customers’ and increase occupancy. The platform also offers a managed service for bulk meeting space booking.
MeetingRooms.com CEO Caleb Parker told C&IT that the platform is unique in its appeal to those wanting to purchase or sell last-minute meeting space, and will lessen the amount of meeting space that currently ‘sits unoccupied’ in big cities such as London.
"We’ve found that a lot of the venues aren’t equipped to support customers who need last-minute meetings or smaller meetings, and they have these rooms that are sitting empty quite often," explained Parker.
"Some venues, such as those with large ballrooms or theatre space, also have smaller syndicate rooms which they don’t want to sell months in advance, because they want to include them as part of big packages. But if they haven’t sold those rooms within a certain last-minute window, that room ends up sitting empty. But there are people out there looking for places just like that, and they can’t find them. Our website lets our venues set their ability for these last minute windows, or any window that they want, to show real-time availability to customers looking for meeting rooms of whatever size at that specific time."
The website features a range of venues including hotels, conference centres and serviced office space. While 1,000 locations are currently live on site, an additional 4,000 locations worldwide are in the process of being uploaded.
