Cardiff: events on the waterfront

Cardiff Bay is one of Europe's most sophisticated waterfronts, with 13 miles of frontage to a fresh water lake created by the Cardiff Bay Barrage. C&IT finds out what's on offer for groups.

Wales Millennium Centre: The centrepiece of the Bay, the Wales Millennium Centre is a village in itself, showcasing the best in Welsh arts. The building offers a range of spaces for events, including the Donald Gordon Theatre, which hosts 600 for a reception and the rehearsal room, which caters for 250-theatre-style.

International Sports Village: This £1.2bln development is the latest project for Cardiff Bay, and will be the location for an international standard swimming pool, which will sit next to Cardiff International White Water, an Olympic standard venue for canoeing and rafting, offering team-building activities. An indoor surf machine will also be available. A new dual-pad ice arena, 150m indoor real snow ski slope, snow play area, hotels and stylish apartments are also in the pipeline.

Dr Who Experience: The BBC series Doctor Who is filmed in the area and Cardiff Bay was the fictional base of the spin-off Torchwood series. Home of the BBC Wales Drama Village, Cardiff Bay is now the permanent home to Doctor Who, Casualty, Wizards v Aliens and Welsh drama Pobol y Cwm. Just next door, The Doctor Who Experience will take groups on an interactive journey with the Doctor through time and space. Delegates can fly the TARDIS, come face-to-face with Daleks and Cybermen and experience special effects and exclusive filming with Peter Capaldi.
