Situated on central Madrid's famous Gran Via boulevard, The Principal is the flagship property from hotelier Pau Guardans' Único Hotels group, which also operates the Grand Hotel Central Barcelona.

Despite its contemporary interior, the design-led, 76-room property is housed in a renovated palatial building that dates back to 1917. Among a plethora of attractive features lies a rooftop Terraza bar with sundeck, offering 'sweeping views of Madrid and beyond'.

Penthouse restaurant Ático serves cocktails and modern haute cuisine rustled up by double-Michelin-starred chef Ramón Freixa, while leisure facilities include a wellness suite, gym, solarium and overflow pool.

A range of private rooms, some with a separate entrance and all with the latest technology, are available for meetings, events or dinners. The rooftop terrace Solarium can also be hired for up to 140 guests, while the hotel's covered Pergola can take up to 35 for an indoor alternative.
