Melia to open hotels in Glasgow and Birmingham

Melia Hotels International will open two new Innside by Melia branded hotels in Glasgow and Birmingham as part of its global expansion plans.

As well as the planned 175-bedroom Innside Glasgow and the 180-bedroom Innside Birmingham, the Innside brand will open a 125-bedroom hotel in Dubai. This will take the it to a total of 36 hotels open or in the process of opening in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Innside by Melia's first UK hotel, in Manchester, will open this year.

The company also announced plans to open two new Sol Hotels & Resorts sites this year in Taghazout in Morocco and Kuta Bali in Indonesia, as part of a strategy to reposition the brand to grow in new resort destinations.

The group will also open the 350-bedroom Melia Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo in Brazil this year, and has signed the ME Barcelona hotel in Spain, which it intends to market as a ‘flagship for contemporary luxury’. In 2016, Melia will open its first hotel in New York.

With the new additions, the group’s portfolio now stands at 378 hotels open or in the process of opening in 41 different countries.
