The Borough Market visitor attraction and events venue will be replaced by a retail development, with the decision described as "the best possible decision for shareholders", despite it coming on the back of "a year of successful trading".

Bookings will be taken for events until after the 2015 Christmas trading period.

Vinopolis MD Samantha Anderson said: "Vinopolis is something of a London landmark for event bookers and conferences but this is the best possible decision for the business and its shareholders.

"We have come to the end of what could reasonably be achieved with the wine experience and feel that it is time for new life to be breathed into the timeless space.

"We have a fantastic team at Vinopolis who have worked tirelessly to make it the best possible visitor attraction and event space."

The likes of IBM and Karen Millen have used the venue for conferences and events.
