Jackie Boughton, Barbican’s head of sales, who joined the venue last year, said the heightened interest is down to "increased visibility" within the industry.

"The level of enquiries we have received so early on in the year promises an exciting year for everyone associated with the Barbican," she commented.

"Whilst we appreciate enquiries don’t always mean confirmed business, it does acknowledge our increased visibility within the industry as an award-winning venue. We continue to successfully raise our profile and this has been key to the level of enquiries we have experienced within the first weeks of 2015."

The purpose-built arts and conference centre achieved AIM Gold status, the highest possible level of venue accreditation, in 2013.

It houses spaces including the Guildhall School of Music & Drama’s state-of-the-art Milton Court and the Conservatory, with its 2,000 species of tropical plants and trees.
