The initiative, which was launched by tourism minister Fergus Ewing MSP, will work with champions in key business sectors. The champions will try to generate new enquiries for conferences and business events in their field, in an attempt to attract events that would not have happened in Scotland otherwise.
Ewing said: "Our business tourism sector is a key driver of growth, and makes a strong contribution to the economic vitality of Scotland’s key tourism destinations. Not only does business tourism bring tens of thousands of delegates to Scotland, but the events also act as a shop window for all our country has to offer."
Business tourism, comprising trips related to conferences, meetings and incentive travel, is currently worth £782m to the Scottish economy.
