The change in focus will mean the exit of tour operating activities, including its UK office based in Surrey and other bases in Switzerland, Benelux, Hong Kong, India and Finland, with new owners being sought for the division.

As a result, Kuoni will be restructured into three divisions: Global Travel Distribution (GTD), Global Travel Services (GTS) and VFS Global.

The GTS division will comprise of group travel experts and destination management specialists that will source and coordinate destination services, including accommodation, transportation, tours and activities, venues and event management.

Kuoni will also invest additional resources in Asia, the Middle East and Africa by expanding its capabilities across all divisions.

A statement released by Kuoni read: "Kuoni’s board of directors and group executive board have decided to focus the company’s activities on its core business as a service provider to the global travel industry and to governments.

"Kuoni will focus on markets with attractive, long-term growth potential such as Asia, the Middle East and Africa. The travel market environment is likely to remain fast changing, requiring travel companies to choose distinct development priorities. Kuoni has therefore decided to focus its resources and to divest its tour operating activities."
