Ireland aims to grow business tourism and increase number of sporting events

Failte Ireland, the National Tourism Development Authority for Ireland, will target new leads to win lucrative conferences and meetings for the destination, as well as implementing a programme to win large-scale sporting and other major events.

This initiative was announced last month at Failte Ireland’s Annual Tourism Industry Review. Failte Ireland also outlined ‘Big Ideas and Signature Programmes’ as a priority, to include the growth of large iconic and signature programmes which it says will stand out internationally and give Ireland a greater ‘wow’ factor overseas.

This will see further investment in the ‘Wild Atlantic Way’, the development of a Dublin brand with a focused marketing campaign and a big new idea for the East and South of the country.

Fáilte Ireland chairman Michael Cawley said: "For 2015 we expect Irish tourism to continue to benefit from further increases in air access, the substantial capital investments made in initiatives such as the Wild Atlantic Way and the increased use of focused marketing both overseas and domestically."
