Messe Berlin has recorded a 2014 turnover of more than £208m, the highest figure in the group's history.

The figure exceeded the previous record of £194m, which was achieved in 2012.

More than 27,000 exhibitors and 1.9 million visitors attended a total of 69 trade fairs and congresses run by the group across the year. Highlights from 2014 included the launch of CityCube Berlin, which opened earlier this year in the German capital at a cost of £80m.

Dr Christian Göke, CEO of Messe Berlin GmbH, said: "Berlin and Messe Berlin operate very closely and successfully together. Messe Berlin generates business travel for Berlin and acts as a media ambassador on a major scale, ensuring employment for over 25,000 people.

"On the other hand the city offers great advantages and an ideal environment for the events industry, enabling us to create and attract interesting trade fairs, congresses and events in Berlin. As a result, since the year 2000 Messe Berlin has generated an extra 30 billion euros of spending power in the Berlin and Brandenburg region."
