It takes eight out of ten a decade to achieve that level of earnings, the research found. However 4% of those polled had become a CEO within four years.

The results were revealed at the Conference Summit, produced by Global Conference Network, at which more than 200 events business leaders discussed the opportunities, growth forecasts and challenges facing the industry in 2015.

The summit, held at Etc Venues in London’s Bishopgate last Friday (5 December), was chaired by Bansri Shah, managing director of Greenpower Conferences. Other attendees included the MP Nick de Bois, chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for events, Isobel Peck, director of communities, brand and content at Informa, and Ben Hilary, managing director of International Research Networks.

Topics considered at roundtable discussions included content-led exhibitions, innovating the delegate experience, digital marketing and maximising engagement whatever the revenue model. An exhibition of industry suppliers included Conference Expo/Nimlok, The Hurlingham Club and One World.
